The National Human Rights Commission of Thailand (NHRCT) Calls for Accountability and Improved Safety following the Train–Bus Collision
on Asok-Din Daeng Road

          The National Human Rights Commission of Thailand (NHRCT) expresses its deepest condolences to the families of the eight persons who lost their lives, as well as to all those injured, in the collision between the freight train and a public bus at the railway crossing near Makkasan Airport Rail Link Station on 16 May 2026.

          The right to life and bodily security are fundamental human rights which the State has a duty to protect with utmost seriousness. The recurrence of accidents within the public transport system indicates persistent deficiencies in safety standards.

               The NHRCT therefore calls on the Government and relevant agencies to take immediate action as follows:

               1. Conduct a transparent investigation to determine the cause of the accident and identify those responsible.

          2. Ensure comprehensive and fair remedies to all those affected, covering both the loss of life or injury and property damage.

          3. Establish preventive measures encompassing accident prevention, emergency response planning, and the systematic enhancement of safety standards within the public transport system.

          Everyone has the right to travel safely, and the State must never neglect its responsibility to safeguard this right.
