NHRCT celebrated the International Women’s Day by declaring itself to be an organization that is free from sexual abuse in workplace
In meeting no. 6/2556 on Wednesday 6th March 2013, the National Human Rights Commission of Thailand (NHRCT) passed a resolution to apply a parliamentary rule on ordinary parliament officials discipline B.E. 2555 (2012) to officials and officers of Office of the National Human Rights Commission of Thailand at the same time as declaring its intention to become an organization that is free from sexual abuse in workplace to prevent sexual harassment and sexual abuse according to the rule no.4 which states that any ordinary parliament official who did anything as follows towards any official or any person doing official work, whether this act happens within or outside of government office, when person who was acted upon did not consent to the act, or was in trouble or annoyed, would be considered as committing an act of sexual abuse or sexual harassment according to rule no.3 (9):
1. An act of physical contact with sexual indication, such as kissing, hugging and grasping any body part, for example.
2. A verbal act with sexual indication, such as commenting on body, teasing and speaking rudely, for example.
3. A conduct with sexual indication, such as taking liberties by watching, using sign or symbol, for example.
4. A performance or communication with sexual indication, such as showing pornography, sending letter, message or other forms of communication, for example.
5. Any behaviour with sexual indication that was undesirable or troublesome or annoying to the person who was acted upon.
Mrs. Visa Benjamano, a National Human Rights Commissioner, Chairperson of NHRCT’s Sub-Committee for Checking Violation of Children’s Right, Women’s Right and Equality of Persons, and Chairperson of NHRCT’s Sub-Committee on Strategic Actions Concerning Children’s Right, Women’s Right and Equality of Person, revealed that the NHRCT has been trying to advocate matters that academics and women’s organizations/networks had proposed and expected the NHRCT as a human right organization to declare that it would become a leading organization on ethics related to this matter. The meeting passed a resolution that National Human Rights Commissioners should have the same responsibility as officials and officers in Office of the National Human Rights Commission on this matter.
The NHRCT considered that it is an important policy to celebrate the International Women’s Day, 8th March 2013.
